Clinical update: STIs and sexual health
Wednesday 29 October 2008
Venue: The Royal Society of Medicine, 1 Wimpole Street, London, W1G 0AE
The UK is the STI capital of Europe. There are over 110,000 cases of chlamydia, about 20,000 cases of gonorrhoea, almost 4,000 cases of syphilis and about 8,000 new cases of HIV diagnosed in the UK every year. From a previous dip in the early 80s we have seen a remorseless rise in STIs, and we know that many STIs remain undiagnosed. But the picture is not one of gloom! We have a better understanding of the issues than ever before. We have a broader coverage of diagnostic opportunities. We have better therapeutic options. And we also have a better chance of offering patients practical help with other sexual health problems such as erectile dysfunction.
Aims:
- This meeting will give a practical update on new developments and on current best practice in STIs and sexual health
Objectives:
- to update knowledge and skills in the management of STIs
- to update knowledge and skills in the non-specialist management of HIV
- to update knowledge and skills in the management of erectile dysfunction.
