Clinical Update in Diabetes: Embracing the challenges for the diabetes care team
Wednesday 6 May 2009
Venue: The Royal Society of Medicine, 1 Wimpole Street, London, W1G 0AE
organised by the Royal Society of Medicine in association with Federation of European Nurses in Diabetes
Patients with diabetes and its complications form a significant part of the workload of both secondary care workers and GPs, and are reckoned to use up to 10% of the entire NHS budget. The challenge of caring for these patients is growing, and the issues involved in their care are becoming more complex. The boundary between primary and secondary care also seems increasingly confusing.
This Clinical Update meeting will examine issues of relevance to both general physicians and GPs, with the aim of improving diabetic care. We will look at current challenges, models of care, lifestyle issues and diet and at future trends in therapy. We will also learn about the patients' and the specialists' perspectives. There will be ample time for questions and discussion, making it a stimulating and interactive day.
By the end of the conference, those attending should feel more confident in being able to deal with a wide range of diabetic problems, and be better able to identify and use appropriate resources in both primary and secondary care.
The meeting is intended for all general physicians and trainees, GPs and GP registrars, Practice Nurses and Diabetic Nurse Specialists.
