Chronic pain - problems and solutions

Tuesday 29 June 2010

Venue: St. Paul's Cathedral, The Chapterhouse, St. Paul's Churchyard, LONDON, EC4M 8AD

organised by the Royal Society of Medicine and St Paul's Cathedral

Background:

Both doctors and clergy regularly seek to help people with chronic pain. Doctors know that there is a lot more to chronic pain than acute pain that goes on a long time. And clergy know the difficult pastoral challenges that they face in helping these people. Both groups have specific contributions and skills relevant to the care of people with chronic pain. Can we work together?

Aims and objectives:

This symposium will enable doctors and clergy to share their knowledge and insights in this area and to discuss joined up ways of working.

At the end of the meeting participants will have an understanding of:
- Medical models of chronic pain.
- Pastoral models of chronic pain.
- Medical, psychological and pastoral ways of helping people in chronic pain.
- Personal experiences of chronic pain.
- The spiritual challenge of chronic pain.
