Patient Safety Section
Aim
The Aim of the section is to provide comprehensive and topical information related to patient safety and also a forum for discussion and debate concerning all aspects of the delivery of safe care. Also to increase understanding of risk management, why adverse events occur, the resolution of clinical disputes and legal claims.
We will achieve our Aim by:
- Holding conferences and meetings where international and national academics, practising professionals and managers will inform on and address priority patient safety issues.
- Ensuring the agenda addressed at meetings is relevant to members and obtain members’ views on suggestions for the content of meeting programmes
- Exploring in depth particular issues of concern to delegates through discussion and debate
- Ensuring the section programme is flexible enough to adjust to legislation, reports and inquiries of high national importance at any particular time.
- Encouraging and recruiting a multidisciplinary membership base in order to enhance the debate and discussion and outcomes of the section meetings.
- Organising joint meetings with other sections on topics of shared interest.
The RSM's Section of Patient Safety incorporates the Association of Litigation and Risk Management (formally known as ALARM). We welcome applications for membership from both individuals and organisations including NHS Trusts and Practices of Solicitors. Corporate Membership of this Section includes the cost of attending 3 Patient Safety meetings each year. Please contact membership@rsm.ac.uk for more information.
