Aims
This study day aims to explore the challenges and opportunities that face palliative care in the 21st century. Changing disease burdens, demographic trends, funding patterns and technological advances mean new models of care need are needed to meet the diverse needs of our growing patient population and new skills must be developed to deliver them. This day will take a global perspective in order to look at these challenges and highlight examples of innovative practice internationally to suggest future directions. It will highlight the range of opportunities available to work overseas and delegates will have the opportunity to meet with organizations and services supporting this.
Objectives
To explore the problems and opportunities facing palliative care today
To learn about new models of care from around the world and understand what relevance they may have for our practice
To develop skills to support new and innovative ways of working
To meet with organizations supporting volunteering or working for palliative care organizations overseas
Target Audience
This day will be of interest to those working in the field of palliative care, particularly to those with an interest in the development of services, collaborating or working overseas and those interested in the global perspective of palliative care. It will also be of interest to those working in the fields of care of the elderly, public health and international or global health.
This day will also cover relevant aspects from the 2010 palliative medicine curriculum for specialty trainees to help them meet these learning needs.
In addition to this meeting we have a photographic exhibition displayed in the Auchi Foyer courtesy of photographer Nadia Bettega displaying work with the Diana Memorial Fund.
