Oil upon troubled waters: A new look at Meibomian gland dysfunction

Thursday 11 November 2010

Venue: Royal Society of Medicine, 1 Wimpole Street, LONDON, W1G 0AE

Meibomian gland dysfunction is a common cause of symptomatic tear dysfunction which is troubling for our patients and a source of diagnostic and management difficulty for ourselves. In 2007 the Tear Film and Ocular Surface Society published the findings of the pivotal International Dry Eye Workshop (DEWS) which refreshed and restructured our thinking on all aspects of tear dysfunction. Last year the Society established a no less ambitious International Workshop on Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), whose findings and recommendations are to be published this year. Tonight, four key members of the Workshop summarise aspects of their work in a presentation aimed at helping our patients and easing the clinical burden presented by MGD.
