Essential CPD for the dental team

The aims of the course are to discuss:
* radiation physics
* risks of ionising radiation
* radiation dose in dental radiography
* factors affecting the dose in dental radiography
* principles of radiation protection
* statutory requirements
* quality assurance
* selection criteria

This meeting also aims to:
* implement 'Standard Precautions' for cross infection prevention and control
* provide an understanding of the regulatory framework and practical aspects of instrument decontamination and the use of sterilizers

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:
* understand the methods of dose reduction
* recognise practical methods of achieving minimum dose delivery
* understand the current legal aspects to IR(ME)R and become familiar with relative selection criteria
* be familiar with the latest technology including digital radiography and cone beam CT scanning
* understand quality assurance

By the end of the meeting, delegates will have the knowledge of:
* current legislation in relation to prevention and cross infection control in the dental surgery
* hand hygiene and effective use of personal protective equipment
* safe use of sharps and management of sharps injuries
* prevention of biofilm formation in dental waterlines

* Impact of vCJD and emerging pathogens of infection control in the dental surgery
* understand the regulatory framework (HTM 01-05) and practical aspects of instrument decontamination and the use of sterilizers
* the roles and responsibilities of members of the dental team in infection control and decontamination
* design of decontamination rooms
