Food and health: Communication with consumers
Wednesday 3 March 2010
Venue: Royal Society of Medicine, 1 Wimpole Street, LONDON, W1G 0AE, England
A joint meeting with the Food & Health Forum
Many initiatives are currently underway to improve the communication with consumers on various aspects of health and nutrition. For example, the EU Commission is working to establish a definitive list of generally accepted health claims to be permitted on foods. Traffic lights, guideline daily amounts (GDAs) and several high profile schemes to help consumers identify healthy options are in place in the UK and elsewhere. The intention of this conference is to bring together a broad cross-section of stakeholders to review the current status and future directions of the various initiatives. The theme will be scientific substantiation, and the scientific basis for the various activities will be highlighted.
The meeting is intended as briefing for general practitioners, consultants, dieticians, nutritionists and other healthcare practitioners. It will also be of interest to key stakeholders including food and ingredient companies, retailers, and importantly, academics and students active in the field of nutrition and health.
