Meeting aims: This meeting will promote an awareness of the problems of, and strategies for, pain assessment in non-verbal patients, both human and veterinary. The development and use of pain assessment tools in both the medical and veterinary fields will form the primary focus.
Meeting objectives: At the end of the meeting participants will have a thorough knowledge of the problems involved in pain recognition and assessment in patients who cannot verbalise their personal experience. Participants will also be familiar with the various pain assessment tools and techniques as applicable to human and veterinary medicine and have greater insight into current research methodologies and strategies which aim to improve the recognition, localisation and quantification of pain in these non-verbal patients.
It is the hope of the organisers that this greater understanding will promote patient care to positively influence health outcomes.
