From bench to bedside: Bariatric surgery
Tuesday 6 July 2010
Venue: Royal Society of Medicine, 1 Wimpole Street, LONDON, W1G 0AE
Obesity is increasing at an alarming rate in the UK as it is in the rest of the world, bringing with it increases in important comorbitities including diabetes and premature cardiovascular disease.
Medical therapy with lifestyle change and pharmacological agents has been disappointing but bariatric surgery is increasingly recognised to have an important role, not only in the treatment of the morbidly obese but also in those with a lower level of overweight but with a co-morbid condition.
Delegates will learn about the pandemic of obesity, the control of appetite, the impact of bariatric surgery including its long term outcome and the mechanisms of benefits.
This meeting should help the practitioner to appreciate the role of bariatric surgery such that its potential benefits may be incorporated into individual patient management plans.
Please note that the early bird fee closes by the 9th of June.
Registration closes 4 working days before the meeting date. Please register before then to avoid disappointment.
