Anaesthesia Section

A Short History of the Section of Anaesthetics of the Royal Society of Medicine and the Society of Anaesthetists

This book, written by a former President of the Section of Anaesthetics, describes the history of the oldest continuously functioning organisation of physicians actively interested in the practice of Anaesthesia. The Society of Anaesthetists, formed in 1892-93, joined the Royal Society of Medicine in 1908 to become the Section of Anaesthetics.

The history of the Section is summarised, listing the Presidents and Vice-Presidents, Honorary Secretaries, prize winners and Henry Hill Hickman medallists, and giving brief details of all meetings from 1908 to 1995 when the Section of Anaesthetics was renamed the Section of Anaesthesia.
