Disabled access

Access to 1 Wimpole Street for visitors with impaired mobility

Accessible meeting rooms

All event areas and meeting rooms are accessible.

A wheelchair is available at reception, and an evacuation chair is stored in the main stairwell at first floor level.

All floors of the library are accessible via a lift/ramp.

Parking

There is one public disabled parking space near the main entrance on Wimpole Street. Please contact us so that we can accommodate parking in our the basement car park (dependent on space available).

Accessible toilets are located:

  • Library mezzanine floor
  • ground floor
  • basement
Facilities for visually impaired and deaf or hard of hearing visitors

Guide dogs

Guide dogs and dogs that have specific training are welcome for events and overnight stay at Domus.
Both Domus and the reception desk have water bowls available.

Audio loops

An audio loop is available in the Fellows reception.

Text phones

Unfortunately we are unable to provide text phones for the hard of hearing or deaf.

Accessible PC

The Library has an accessible PC with a range of hardware, software and peripheral devices designed to help users who have a visual impairment, are blind, or have other disabilities, to get more out of visiting the Library.

The accessible PC is located in carrel 1 (designed for wheelchair access) on the Library Mezzanine floor, opposite the Library lift. Users who require the accessible features unique to this equipment have priority over other users.

The equipment includes:

  • Standard PC with a 19” flat screen monitor

  • Interchangeable large print keyboard designed for visually impaired users (standard design with large high-contrast yellow letters on black keys)

  • BigKeys keyboard more suitable for those with motor skills difficulties (simplified 60-key QWERTY design with large 1” keys and lettering)

  • Standard mouse and large trackball mouse with coloured keys particularly suitable for those with motor skills difficulties headphones

  • ClearView+ autofocus desktop video magnifier that provides 2.5-50 times magnification of text and small objects in different colours with adjustable brightness and contrast

  • MAGic Professional screen magnification software which provides screen magnification of up to 16 times and screen reading features

  • JAWS Professional screen reader software which provids a comprehensive screen reading capability where all text on screen can be converted into synthesised speech.
