New Membership Cards
Your new RSM Membership Card is here...do put into your wallet
A new RSM Membership card sponsored by Hiscox Insurance should be with you shortly and it replaces your existing card so please do dispose of your old card safely and put this one into your wallet or purse.
In the past the card has been a reminder of membership and useful when contacting us – however it now has a very practical purpose. From later in 2012 you will need to touch your card on a wall based entry sensor (just like the Oyster cards used on the London Underground) to gain entry to both our exclusive Member only Club areas and the RSM Library. This will ensure that only current Members of the Society and their guests can access our Member facilities.
As Members have begun to read about the new card we've received some questions about how the scheme will work and we've included these below with our answers. If you still have any questions please do get in touch with membership@rsm.ac.uk or +44 (0) 20 7290 2991.
When will I need to start using my card for entrance to the Club areas?
We plan to go "live" with the new entry system later in 2012 to co-incide with the completion of project 2012 over the Summer months. We advise you to ensure that your card is in your wallet from now onwards to ensure that you can access the member parts of the RSM. We will email members to advise of the start date of the scheme and also have posters and notices in the building.
Where will the touch points into the Club areas be?
There will be a wall based entry sensor next to the glass doors from the academic reception area and also before the glass entry doors in the Member entrance from Henrietta Place. (Inside the first set of automatic glass doors so that if it's raining you won't get wet!)
What happens if I'm staying at Domus and my partner isn't a member – how do they access the Club areas?
When you check in they will be given a temporary card attached to your bedroom number which then needs to be returned on departure to reception. If your accompanying guest is a Club Member then they can use their own card as it will give access to the Member areas.
What happens if I forget to bring my card?
Please don't worry! RSM staff can provide you with entry to both the Club areas and the Library.
If the doors won't open for me what does that mean?
Once the entry scheme is active you should find that the doors will open when you show your card to the sensor. If this doesn't happen then it may be that your card is damaged and needs replacing. The other reason may be that you have overlooked renewing your membership and therefore the access has been cut off. (To replace your card or renew your membership you can visit the RSM Membership office on the 3rd floor of the building who will be happy to assist)
Why aren't Overseas Fellows automatically being provided with a card that provides entrance to the RSM?
As you will appreciate the cost of these chip enabled cards is much higher than our traditional cards. To ensure that the RSM's monies are spent wisely we are providing Overseas Members with a standard card which will look the same as the smart cards but at a fraction of the cost. However if you are planning to visit London please do tell our membership team by calling +44 (0)20 7290 3930 or email membership@rsm.ac.uk and they can then provide you with a smart card – and this can then be used on future visits to the Society.
If I plan to meet guests for lunch in Restaurant or Buttery where do I now meet them?
If visiting with friends or colleagues then we suggest that you meet them in the RSM academic entrance and then bring your guests through to the Club areas.
I use the Out of Hours study centre in the Library – can I still do this?
Yes of course – and the good news is that you will no longer need a separate card to access the Study Centre - there will be a new glass gate (including a disabled access gate) to access the Library and you will just need to show your card to the sensor to enter.
