Adults and adolescents with autistic spectrum conditions: What are the important issues for recognition, diagnosis and support?
Wednesday 9 June 2010
Venue: The Grand by Thistle, Grand Thistle Bristol Hotel, Broad Street, Bristol, Wessex, BS1 2EL
organised by the Royal Society of Medicine in association with Research Autism
There is now a better understanding of Autistic Spectrum Conditions in children but of adults it is less well developed. The recent Autism Act and related strategy was a response to the poor recognition of these conditions in adults and a high level of misunderstanding and social exclusion. Work on the Dept Health national autism strategy has identified a need for better awareness by professionals of this group and their needs and the critical importance of diagnosis, effective intervention and training of professionals.
